KINGMAKER:
The Wardens of the Greenbelt
Entry 13.
Congratulations, Rewards & A New Charter
Just a week after William and Jarn returned to Oleg's, Peter Lebeda arrived to congratulate them and a week after him a party from Restov arrived led by the Steward-at-Arms and a guard of twenty warriors. They set up a tented village outside the trading post, flying the banners of Brevoy, Restov and the Rostland Swordlords over a grand pavilion.
A few days later an entourage arrived accompanying a decorated coach with two representatives from the Swordlord Council. Two days later the rest of the Wardens returned from their travels. This resulted in much feasting and celebrations. The next evening they were invited to attend the Swordlords' representatives in the pavilion. Here they were congratulated on each of their achievements; each announcement accompanied by loud cheering from the assembled audience. Much to the embarrassment of the other Wardens the loudest cheering was led by T'lef and Oleg. The rewards they had accumulated were numbered and any outstanding awards were handed over. Finally each member of the Wardens received a letter of congratulations from the Regent himself.
After all the cheering had died down the Wardens were presented with a new charter in which they were to build their own realm within the territory they had explored and beyond. A generous stipend was provided by Brevoy in order that the Wardens could make a good start with improving the land they had found. When all the official business was concluded the Restov contingent started to pack away their camp and return to the city. There was time enough for some personal congratulations especially from Peter Lebeda and Sir Semiyon Kyllov, the Steward-at-Arms, who was very impressed with their martial prowess.
Once the officials had departed the Wardens were finally able to complete many of their quests. The fangberry's were taken to Boken who handed over a number of potions as a reward. Oleg was given the Tatzlwyrm heads. Tuskgutter's body was presented to Vekkel Benzen and he presented them with his bow and six animal-bane arrows; promising them the cheese as soon as it was mature enough. The Swordlords had already rewarded the Wardens for dealing with the Kobolds.
Most importantly Oleg was presented with Svetlana's ring. The Wardens were rewarded as usual by Svetlana by constant gifts of food and drink for the next few days. Anyone she managed to corner was regaled by her version of how the ring was won back by her brave heroes and how she felt like the princess in one of her father's fables.
The Wardens then started to organise their kingdom. Firstly they considered the various official posts they would need to fill. Then they decided that their capital should be where the Stag Lord's fort was, as it would be relatively easy to rebuild the old castle. The location also gave them good communication links to the rest of their territory. The land immediately around there could provide good hill farming and such improvements could attract a larger population. So with the money provided by the Swordlords they started building their very own kingdom.
